Need the scoop on being wait-listed by Tech


Daughter got the disappointing news that she has been waitlisted by VT. My understanding is that Tech accepts about 16,000, with hopes of 6,000 choosing to enroll. Then, if they don't fill the 6,000, they'll reach down to the 3,500 students that have been waitlisted.

As you can imagine, this is crushing news. She's been accepted to Tennessee and George Mason. We're looking at some other possibilities. But I cringe at the thought of paying 20K more and driving 3.5 hours past VT to take her to Knoxville.

So what are the possibilities of a spot on the wait list materializing into a future acceptance? The odds look really bad. It's unfortunate because she would have been a great Hokie.
